In 1962, Bill Winkenbach formed the first reported fantasy football league. He called it the Greater Oakland Professional Pigskin Prognosticators League, and it had eight teams. George Blanda was the first player drafted.

I’m old enough to have watched George Blanda play. He was the Oakland Raiders quarterback and placekicker. In 1970, at the age of 43, Blanda led the Raiders to an amazing 5 game winning streak while relieving injured Raider quarterback, Daryle Lamonica. No wonder Blanda was the first player chosen in Fantasy Football; he gained his fantasy owners plenty of wins by his excellent play.

Have you ever wondered how biblical heroes of faith would compare to one another if we created a fantasy faith league? On February 5th, we’ll compare the love of the Apostle Paul to the love of the Apostle John in order to inform and inspire our love for one another. Over the course of six weeks, we’ll compare the faith, self-control, faithfulness, endurance, and leadership of biblical heroes such as: Moses, David, Peter, James, Luke, Job, and Solomon to encourage us to live our lives in a way that pleases and honors God. I hope you will join us as we explore what made these women and men of faith so great.

God bless,
Pastor John
